Marjoram Herb Plant Varieties

Marjoram and Oregano are very similar and they belong to the same family, Origanum. We're often asked for the difference between the two and this becomes even more difficult when some of the herbs are given more than one common name eg Origanum vulgare, known in some places as Oregano, is also called Wild Marjoram elsewhere. Hence the flavours are similar, but you can choose between green, golden and variegated leaves and select a variety according to its height or growing habit. However, Sweet Marjoram is very different, it's a tender herb with a perfumed flavour so if a recipe calls for it, don't use any other!
